Language and Communication When Booking in Greece
Language is the most under-asked question in the booking process and the one most likely to determine whether an evening works.
What you can expect
English is widely spoken in the Greek companionship market, particularly among companions working with international clients. Greek is obviously universal among Greek companions. Russian is common given the size of the Eastern European community. Beyond those, ability varies considerably.
What varies most is not whether someone speaks English but how well. There is a large gap between enough English to arrange a booking and enough to sustain three hours of dinner conversation.
Why it matters more for some bookings
For a short booking, limited shared language is a minor issue. For a dinner date, an event, or an overnight, it is the entire experience. The longer the format, the more language ability determines whether it is enjoyable or awkward.
Ask specifically
Do not ask whether she speaks English — the answer is almost always yes. Ask how comfortable she is holding a long conversation in it. A good agency will answer that honestly because a mismatch produces a complaint.
Booking across a language gap
If you are booking through an agency in a language neither of you speaks natively, keep messages short and unambiguous. State the date, time, duration, and location in plain terms. Avoid idiom, which is where misunderstandings actually occur.
Greek phrases worth knowing
Not necessary, but appreciated. A greeting and a thank you in Greek land well and cost nothing to learn. Nobody expects a visitor to speak Greek and the effort registers.
Written confirmation
Where there is any language gap, confirm details in writing rather than by phone. Times and addresses are exactly the things that get lost across a language barrier, and a written message removes the ambiguity.
