Review sites and forums are the main way clients try to reduce uncertainty, and they are considerably less reliable than most users assume.
The structural problems
Reviews in this industry are unusually easy to manipulate. Agencies write positive reviews for their own listings and negative ones for competitors. Individual reviewers vary enormously in what they consider good. And there is no verification that a reviewer met the person at all.
Volume is not evidence. A listing with fifty glowing reviews posted over a short period is more suspicious than one with six spread over two years.
Reading for signal
Ignore the ratings and read the detail. Reviews describing specific, mundane things — she arrived on time, the apartment was where they said, she was as described — are far more credible than effusive ones with no concrete content.
Negative reviews are more informative
Complaints about lateness, misrepresentation or pressure over money are the ones worth weighting. Those are hard to fabricate convincingly and describe exactly the failures that matter.
The bias in who posts
Most satisfied clients never post. The people who do are disproportionately those with something to complain about or something to promote. Absence of reviews therefore means very little either way.
What to weigh instead
How long the agency has operated, whether the photographs verify, whether they answer direct questions plainly, and whether they pressure you. These are observable directly and are not manipulable in the way reviews are.
If you review
Be factual and leave out identifying detail beyond what the companion publishes herself. Reviews that include real names, personal circumstances or locations cause genuine harm and are not acceptable regardless of how the booking went.
