Late-Night and Early-Morning Bookings in Athens
Athens runs later than most European cities, which makes late bookings more feasible here than elsewhere. There are still limits worth understanding.
What counts as late here
A booking starting at eleven at night is entirely ordinary in Athens and would be considered late in northern Europe. Midnight is unremarkable. One or two in the morning is possible but availability narrows considerably.
Past three, you are into a much smaller pool of companions who specifically work those hours, and rates often reflect it.
Why availability narrows
Companions who have worked an evening are finishing, and those who have not are asleep. The people available at four in the morning are working that shift deliberately, and there are fewer of them.
Plan rather than improvise
If you know your evening will free up late, message in the afternoon rather than at two in the morning. A companion who knows a late booking is coming can plan around it; one woken by a message cannot.
Early morning
Genuinely early bookings — six or seven — are unusual and mostly requested by travellers around flights. They can be arranged with notice but almost never at short notice, for obvious reasons.
Alcohol becomes the issue
The practical problem with very late bookings is that clients requesting them have often been drinking for many hours. Most companions will decline or end a booking with someone significantly drunk, and this is the most common reason late bookings fall apart.
Rates
Some agencies apply a premium for unsocial hours, some do not. Ask when booking rather than assuming, and expect the answer to be honest if you are dealing with an established operation.
Getting home
Athens taxis run all night and are inexpensive. Arranging one for a companion leaving at five in the morning is a courtesy that is noticed.
